Albuquerque Barber College Objectives

The primary objective of the Albuquerque Barber College is to provide training in all services required by clients in a full-service barber and or hair styling salon for men and women.
It is the further objective of the Albuquerque Barber College to give the students education in the barber styling profession and to prepare them to take the New Mexico State Board examination thus qualifying them to receive their New Mexico barber license as a registered Master Barber.

Barber Brush-Up Program

The primary objective of the barber brush up program is an advanced education for those persons already licensed barbers wishing to take a refresher program in barber styling. Also to prepare barbers transferring from other states who need additional hours to take the New Mexico State Barber Board examination.

Instructor Program

The primary objective of the Instructor Program is to advanced education for those persons already licensed wishing to further their career in the Barber industry by learning how to share, dispense and divulge knowledge and/or skills. Also to prepare the students to take the New Mexico State Board Examination thus qualifying them to receive their New Mexico Instructor License as a registered Instructor.

Nature of the Work

Haircutting

HAIR CUTTING is still the major activity carried on in the barber-styling shop. However, it has grown into a much more sophisticated and artistic endeavor. The modern barber-stylist is not simply attempting to shorten the hair, but to shape it in such a way that it will be easy to style in a manner most attractive to the facial features of his customer. In your training program, you will learn to employ special tools such as styling dryers, used in creating stylish effects.

Traditional

TRADITIONAL services include: haircuts, styles, permanent waving, haircolor, shaves, facial treatment, trimming and styling mustaches and beards, shampooing and scalp massage.

Growing in Importance

Hair coloring and hair design is growing in importance. These services are high-income services that have greatly expanded the professional barber-sylist’s earning power.
